This 3 hour class, taught in your home, is recommended for you and your partner, since breastfeeding is a participatory experience for mom and baby and daddy, partner, grandparents, even older siblings. The class is a combination of education, instruction and hands-on training, although it should be understood that until the baby is in your arms, any amount of education and training is only cursory to the actual initiation and ongoing experiences of breastfeeding.
Subject matter begins with the anatomy of breastfeeding (of both the mother and the baby) and finishes with collection and storage of breastmilk. Having a private class allows you to assist the instructor by presenting any concerns that are specific to you. The instructor will demonstrate nursing cushions, breastpumps and other breastfeeding accoutrements helpful to the breastfeeding experience, and many of these items will be available to you at discounted prices.
The class is taught by an IBCLC certifiedLactation Consultant, who maintains continuing education, attends workshops and conferences and provides you with the most current research and information. Should you need breastfeeding assistance once the baby is born, you would be able to request the instructor return to your home for such consulting.
